I’m a fellow Honda lover and I have a 1998 Accord 3.0 V6 with many modifications including 18″ rims, Mugen suspension, double pipe HKS exhaust, and upgraded Euro-R front braking… love the photo above but the discs look ridiculous with the 22s. If I could comment on some of the above remarks – suggest you upgrade the suspension if you want big rims. Its not just about them physically fitting in the wheel arc and well. Most oversize will fit but you will be upsetting the balance of the car. One size up from the original with lower profile tyres is ok but beyond that handling and centre of gravity will be affected unless you upgrade the dampers and adjust the car height. Beware of “offset” as well. Otherwise you tires will scrub out on the inside or outside. You may also want to fit a “limiter” or “governor” on the steering otherwise you may hit the inside of your underbody on a full turning lock.

I have a 08 accor but its a 4 cylinder u think it can handle 22′s?.. Also dis car is my daily driver and I drive to work and dats 44 miles round trip. Would that be to much for da car?

22s with a 4 cylinder? 177HP or 190HP? performance will drop and your petrol consumption will increase. your car may look awesome but as i mentioned before, balance will be affected, steering may be a problem and your brakes will look like a cappucino saucer. you will have to do many modifications for the suspension to get the car handling right and that won’t address your engine performance or fuel consumption which is another issue.

I have a 2008 Honda Accord and I would like to know if I could fit 22′s on my car or if 20′s would be a better fit? Also wanted to know if it would make the ride rough or rub when I turn, and also if it would void my manufacturer’s warranty?

My ride can handle it. If 24s can fit then I know 2s can. Wow a 98 honda haha I think you need to keep up with ya year models. Im from the south we ride everything big. 18s haha sounds like baby shoes to me.

looks isn’t everything and major oversize will affect performance whether you agree or not – or perhaps someone should offer usain bolt a pair of shiny ass size 30 shoes… everyone may notice and he could even put a big advert on them for all to see but he would sure as hell run slower. i even read about guys in europe (driving super cars like lamborghini’s and SL AMG Mercs), downsizing their pimped out rims because top speed was affected by 5-10mph.
moreover, running and modifying older cars can be more interesting, a) its a challenge and b) your not wasting new parts. plus, in case you haven’t noticed, the body size of the 98-2002 accord is way smaller so oversize on my model is not relative to 2008+ models… so i guess if my ride was a 70s mini you’d expect me to fit 17s right?
my accord could out-corner / handle yours – not to mention my 270hp 3000cc V6 engine…
bigger is better? …or are we compensating for something??

Wow! That was boring. We dont do the little fake fast and furious things like you we drive slow n swang. Hondas on 24s and chargers with up to 30s on them are great to me. I dont sit around and think bout fast cars n how to make them faster. By the way u cant f!ck with my rides. Just because we go big dont mean performance goes down. 1 I have no use in messing with old a*s hondas when I rather have sumthn new n not old. 2 neva said looks is everything. 3 little cars just s*ck. 4 I neva askd for your damn comment. Wow a V6 thats so pathetic hahaha!

Now my question to the owner of the car is how many inches does the car have to be lifted to have 22s?
Doug said,
July 25, 2010 at 10:51 am
i used to work on off-road vehicles fitting 37-39″ tyres and doing serious suspension modifications so i guess i know more about body lifts than you ever will… also, if what i said was a “damn comment”, why did you afford me the compliment of a reply? anyway, didn’t realise i was speaking to a kid… how long have you had your license? once you finish school and get a job you won’t have time to drive around at 30-40km/h just so you can get attention.

Dont worry J Lee Im from the south also and we ride big also. 24s and 22s sound good in my opinion. You are right though, we dont care about engines because we do swang wide. I agree with you all the way.

J Lee said,

Look here you dont know everything there is to know about tires (check your spelling next time my friend) you are not an expert and you are not a genius. Just because you used to work on something doesnt make you experienced and you are not the only person in the world who knows or thinks they know about tires, rims, and speed. Everybody’s different and every car is different. Second of all before you call someone a kid realize (check your spelling again on that one) that this was not a one sided conversation you replied back too so let it go and realize no one is right about everything. Thirdly, you basing your information off of a 98 Honda, my friend its time to come into the new school.

Ha ha the fast car thing is kind of old unless you have a charger. The south does have crazy rides with big rims. If your from the south then you can yndwrstand but if not then sit and watch
Doug said,

spelling – is american english the only form? old fool? you really are ignorant “j.lee” – let me see, to drop to your level of intelligence, that would mean you must be a korean or chinese wannabe american right? and judging by your constant references to the south you are not of the communist variety. 1998 honda or 2008 honda, the principles are the same my 10th grade friend (weird trying to call someone your friend when they are absolutely not – something you do however). you want huge rims then fine – that is your call but if you referred to my earlier post when i gave some positive generic advice (this was before your swear riddled reply that contained numerous spelling inconsistencies and mistakes) i was actually trying to help. a number of things must be considered when you fit large rims: -
1. clearance (space between your wheels and the body – outer and inner)
2. tyre profile (the lower the more stress on your suspension and the more uncomfortable the ride)
3. turning lock/radius – large rims will hit the inside of the body on a full steering lock so a governor is recommended. i had to fit one on my 2004 BMW 330i when i upgraded to 19″ rims – even on 18″ they were hitting the body when i was parking. you can also address this by fitting “spacers” – this will push out your whole wheel making it further from the inside of your under carriage but it will also mean your wheel maybe closer to the arc of the wheel well.
3. suspension arms – the larger the tyre surface area, the more vibration and impact on the suspension complex. consider upgrading – even if you drive slowly all the time, there will be unexpected occasions like a pot hole or emergency situation that could seriously damage your car even if there is no crash or body impact
4. shock absorbers – always a good idea to upgrade. measure the “travel” of the damper. i.e., to what extent will the wheel(s) go up and down – will they hit any part of the body?
That’s some meaningful advice – take it or leave it. it doesn’t matter how old my honda is or how new yours is – the 98 model came standard with 15″ so 18″ is 3x oversize for my car. the 2008 model standard fitting should be 17″ or 18″ so of course oversize will start at 20″ +. but if you don’t believe me, ask any qualified mechanic or go back to your honda dealer and ask them honestly what you need to do to fit large rims without causing damage to your car – you may also void your warranty.
but i’ll leave it there considering i am a 33 year old fool.

I already knew that. But you was the one started this by insulting my car by saying it cant keep up with a toyota. But since you seem to know it all then how many inches would I have to raise my car with 22s? 20s can fit on my car with no mods at all.
